The countdown to the world’s biggest day of generosity is on! As you already know, fundraising in a non-profit organization is a year-round responsibility. But on November 30, 2021, nonprofit organizations just like yours have a unique opportunity to raise crucial funding to support your world-changing mission and vision.

In case you’re not familiar, Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity. It was created in 2012 for a simple reason: to encourage people around the world to use their resources to do good. Since then, Giving Tuesday has grown into an annual global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

As it turns out, a little generosity can go a long way — last year, more than $2.5 billion was donated on a single day for Giving Tuesday! People may be more motivated than ever to give to organizations that inspire them on November 30, but it’s up to you to position yourself as a cause worth investing in — and we’re here to help.

The most important thing you can do as a non-profit is to develop a social media and communication plan for Giving Tuesday early on. You’re already doing great work, so it’s all about creatively sharing it. Find new ways to inspire people with examples of how your operations have already impacted the people you serve, and share tangible goals for the coming year that will motivate people to join your mission and see your vision realized.

Not quite sure what to focus on? It may help to choose a special theme for your social media and communication campaign. For example, if your organization’s mission focuses on providing career training for underserved teens, you could focus on funding one specific training course or funding school supplies for the students you serve. The more people can envision what you want to accomplish and how they can be part of it, the better!

Once you land on a theme, create some assets — graphic posts with inspiring captions, videos, and emails — you can share with your followers and subscribers in the month leading up to the event. Make sure to include a clear call to action in each post and email so your supporters don’t have to look around for ways to get involved in your important work!

Just as importantly, as you prepare your own organization to gain funding, don’t forget to take time to join the movement yourself. Lead with generosity in every area of your life, each Tuesday and every day, whether it’s some of your time, a financial donation, or the power of your voice in your local community.

It’s a simple but powerful idea. Whether you make someone smile, help a neighbor or stranger when they need it, or show up for an issue or a person you care about, every act of generosity counts — and everyone has something to give.
